It is endorsed by the Society for Acute Medicine and recognised by the AIM training committee as a specialist skill.”

This course is the national course for learning ultrasound skills related to acute medicine: lung, abdominal, DVT and vascular access.
In light of the COVID pandemic many courses have been canceled. Andy helped to develop the FAMUS course, and was quick to modify it’s delivery so that it could continue to be delivered.
Candidates watch the lectures in their own time before the course then on the day do the scanning part of the course. The lectures take a half day to watch, and the scanning part of the day takes half a day. After the couse, the candidate has to complete a specific number of scans to be signed off as competent. Courses take place at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
(For Intensive Care trainees this course covers FUSIC Lung, FUSIC Abdo, FUSIC Vascular and FUSIC DVT. Non-doctors such as physios, ANPs and PAs wishing to undertake part or all of the course are welcome.)
